What are Activity Hubs?

Activity Hubs at Bend Open Streets are active programming spaced along the Bend Open Streets route. They act as outdoor community centers and windows on their neighborhoods, where local residents, business and organizations can lead fun, participative activities to engage participants and show them why their neighborhoods are great places to live, work and play! Local businesses and community organizations are excited to help you have the most fun during Bend Open Streets. Our four activituy hubs offer activities, games, food and beverage sales, and great educational opportunities.

Demonstration Projects

Ever wondered if you could change the way your street looks or how you can get across a busy street more easily? The city has received many calls for action over the years by residents and visitors alike who have ideas on how to make their neighborhoods more livable. During Bend Open Streets come out and experience how simple changes to streets can be transformative. Demonstration Projects use modest materials to mock-up simple safety elements to offer a temporary, 4D experience. You’ll gain a different perspective on neighborhood streets and crossings of busy streets. What You can expect:

  • Learn how cut-through traffic can be reduced
  • Learn about upcoming safety projects and their anticipated safety benefits
  • Learn how walking and biking can be enhanced within your neighborhood

Here are some photos of other simple, hands on demonstrations that are helping make the case for safety in your community. Check out some demonstration projects around the Bend Open Streets route and give the City of Bend your feedback.

Rain Or Shine

Central Oregon weather can change in an instant! The expression here is: “If you don’t like the weather, wait 5 mins”. While Bend does get a lot of great sunshine, we do get rain too. Either way Bend Open Streets will carry on. If it’s raining, throw on your rain coat and come join us. Remember a few tips for riding in the rain:

  • Slow down. It’s easy to loose traction, especially in turns, when the road it wet. Avoid sharp turns and high speeds.
  • Give yourself extra distance to stop.
  • Visibility is reduced when it’s raining. Wear a good rain coat and bright colors with reflective material to be seen.
